Aurtistic Zine is a DSTL Arts publication focused on acceptance and showcasing the diverse talents of autistic individuals as well as their family members. With this zine we hope to provide a platform that highlights the strengths of the autism community. We want to show the individual as a whole person and not just a missing piece to a puzzle.
Each zine produced will have a specific theme. The current theme, and submission period, can be found in the submissions guidelines below.
Submissions to Aurtistic Zine are FREE and open to Autistic individuals and their immediate family, ages 6 and up, residing in the U.S. Artists whose work is selected for publication will be notified prior to the upcoming zine release date, and will be eligible to receive one (1) free copy of the published zine. Additional copies may be purchased at the zine release party, or online, after the zine release date.
Please read the following submission guidelines before submitting your work for consideration. Any submissions that do not follow our guidelines will not be considered for publication.
For any questions regarding the biannual Aurtistic Zine, feel free to email us at AurtisticZine@DSTLArts.org

Volume 3; Issue 1 (Spring Issue, 2021)
Connect/Disconnect It’s been an amazingly bizarre couple of months and it would be strange to go into the next issue and not address it. Many of us have lost the comfort of our routines and have been flung into uncertain waters. In this new era of social distancing, have you found yourself redefining what "connection" is? With this in mind, our theme for the next issue of Aurtistic Zine is Connect/Disconnect. For the last several years, many relationships have been built and maintained online. If you moved across the world, you could still connect with your friends or family thanks to the wonders of technology. We find ourselves now in the age of COVID-19 where being able to communicate digitally has gone from a luxury to a necessity that not everyone has access to; and possibly even a burden some cannot escape. Are you still able to find the everyday magic within your online connections? Is your need for interaction and community being met? Just as important is the ability to disconnect and recharge when needed. How are you navigating the need to stay informed and connected with others with your need to rest and focus on yourself? We seek visual art, comics, photography, stories, poetry, flash fiction or creative nonfiction (500 words or less) that express the idea of “Connect/Disconnect,” work that is perhaps inspired by the following quote: "Our lives disconnect and reconnect, we move on, and later we may again touch one another, again bounce away. This is the felt shape of a human life, neither simply linear nor wholly disjunctive nor endlessly bifurcating, but rather this bouncey-castle sequence of bumpings-into and tumblings-apart." –Salman Rushdie |
All-Ages Mini-Zine Workshops
Please note: Due to COVID-19 closures, this program is currently postponed. It will resume in Program Year 2021-2022.
Our Editorial Board conducts a community-based, mini-zine making workshop series offered in partnership with several libraries and community spaces throughout Northeast, East, and South Los Angeles.
Individuals from various neighborhoods in our community come together and work with our Editorial Board to develop stories, poetry, comics, and illustrations in mini-zines. This workshop series is ongoing, and meets once a month (except for holidays) at various locations in Los Angeles, and these workshops are open to people of all ages, regardless of background. Participants in this workshop are also invited to submit longer works of art to the either our biannual Art Block Zine, Aurtistic Zine, and/or our e-zine.
