DSTL Arts Programs
All of our programs are designed to inspire emerging artists of various ages and stages in their lives. As our mission states, our purpose is to inspire, teach, and hire emerging artists from underserved communities. We have to educate our community. We have to build a community that is aware of the actual value of the arts in our community and our local economy.
In Los Angeles County, 1 of 6 jobs is part of the Creative Economy (Otis Report on the Creative Economy, 2015), and of those jobs, approximately 50% of them require a 4-year college degree. The other half require only a 2-year certificate (Los Angeles County Arts Commission–Creative Work Report, 2015). That translates into many jobs and a diversity of education paths that are, perhaps, more easily attainable for the youth, and community, with whom we work.
Through mentorships, arts-based workshops, and other opportunities to learn arts-related entrepreneurial skills, or simply just find work, we inspire our community to explore the natural talents they have. We encourage them to distill their talents into a viable product. We empower our participants to be the next generation of arts leaders our community needs.
